Whipperley Infant Academy ‘Learning, Growing, Together’

Return to school - September 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of this extremely unusual year, I would just like to take this opportunity to express my pride and admiration.  Everyone in our community has worked  together in the face of the immense changes to our lives that the battle against the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic has caused.   I would like to thank the staff of Whipperley and Farley who have worked throughout this crisis, they have been amazing.

As parents, this has been a really tough time for you as you coped with your own worries and tried to keep your children engaged and occupied .  I would like to thank you all for the support you gave to your children and we are really looking forward to welcoming your children back to school on Thursday 3rd September.  Following government guidelines we will be staggering our start and finish times.  These are the same times that your child attended for their two transition days.

Does my child have to attend school in September?

Yes, all children have to attend school in September it is compulsory.

Will my child go to school 5 days a week?  Yes all children will be coming to school 5 days a week.

Is school safe?   The virus has not disappeared and we cannot guarantee that children will be safe from the virus in school but we are taking measures to significantly reduce the risk.  Please see the COVID plan on the school website.

Does my child have to wear school uniform in September?   Yes as before all children have to wear school uniform.  Details of how to order school sweat shirts are on the schools’ websites

Does my child have to bring their book bag in everyday? No not every day, home reading books and learning logs should be brought in on a Monday.  New reading books will be sent home on Mondays and Learning logs will be marked and sent back out on Thursdays.  We are asking that children do not bring items in from home or additional bags.

Does my child need a PE kit?  Yes, the children will still be doing PE at school.

How many children will be in my child‘s class?  From September there will be a maximum of 30 children in each class.

Can I send my child to school if they have COVID symptoms?  No – children are not allowed in school with COVID symptoms but all children and their families will be eligible for a test.  The test is available at a number of test centres in Luton and surrounding areas and results are available in 24hours.  Once your child has a negative result they can return to school.   Tests can be accessed through NHS website.

What gate should I use to drop off and pick up my child?  We have put in place a one way system around both schools to ensure everyone’s safety.  The one way system is the same as on the transition days.  (If you didn’t come don’t worry staff will be on hand to direct you at the beginning of term.)

My child has missed a lot of school I am worried that they won’t catch up? Please don’t worry about where your child is, in September we will all work together to ensure that we get your children exactly where they need to be.  We will be inviting children for small group breakfast and afterschool catch up sessions and we hope you will support us in ensuring your children attend.

When will breakfast and afterschool provision start?  We are hoping to resume breakfast club at the end of September when we have seen how the schools are working.  Afterschool clubs will start in October.  We will keep you updated.

Have a fabulous summer and stay safe.
