Whipperley Infant Academy ‘Learning, Growing, Together’

Year 1 Making butter and scones

Year 1  We made butter and scones

Children and staff were very busy last week making butter and scones.  To make the butter they had to pour cream into a jar and shake the jar continuously for 5 minutes.  To make the scones they needed some self raising flour, baking powder, caster sugar, butter and milk.  The children started by sifting the flour, salt and baking powder into a large bowl. Next they rubbed the butter with their finger tips, before stirring through the sugar. Finally they     added the liquid and gently mixed all the ingredients together to create a soft, sticky dough.  They then took the dough and flatten it out on a well-floured worksurface, before cutting the scones to a desired size. Next they popped them onto a baking sheet, before brushing with a little milk and baking in a hot oven for about 10 minutes.

The children worked really hard and decided to sell their jars of butter and scones to parents after school. They raised a total of £80.00 which will go towards one of our History workshops.  We would like to thank parents for their continued support.
